SOUTH COFFEYVILLE-Dollar General Stores has official opened up its second new store in Nowata County in the last six months. The county’s newest Dollar General Store location is located in its most northern community, South Coffeyville, Okla. The store opened its doors last week, but held its Grand Opening on Saturday, May 23 2015.
The Grand Opening of Dollar General was greeted by a long line of patrons whom were awaiting the opening of the town’s only grocery store. While Grand Opening patrons were greeted with a promotional offer of a $10 gift card to the first 50 adults through its doors.
This Dollar General location boasts 9,100 square feet of dry food, frozen goods, cleaning supplies, personal care items, and more. Dollar General will provide roughly eight (8) jobs to the South Coffeyville community accompanied with a new influx of sales tax dollars for both the town of South Coffeyville and Nowata County.
Based on other Dollar General Stores in similar sized communities, the store could average anywhere from $32,000-$40,000 in weekly sales. Thus, the yearly sales tax impact could be anywhere from $33,000-$42,000 for both the town of South Coffeyville and Nowata County. These new sales tax dollars will help both the town and the county continue to improve its infrastructure and invest in economic development strategies to further fuel the recent economic renaissance in Nowata County.
Dollar General will also help Nowata County keep its South Coffeyville citizens from traveling across the state line into the State of Kansas for their grocery needs. Leaking sales tax dollars, dollars from citizens that are not spent in their home community, is an issue that every community faces, but one that in Nowata County has been exacerbated since the closure of the county’s lone Walmart store in the early 2000’s.
Dollar General Stores two new locations in the county accompanied with the opening of the Cherokee Casino in South Coffeyville has provided the county with roughly 150 new jobs and most importantly, new sources of groceries and entertainment.
